January 13 –¡SALUD! has been named a 2008 Notable Video by the American Library Association (ALA). The ALA’s Video Round Table Notable Videos Committee selected the feature length documentary as one of 15 winning titles: “outstanding programs released on video within the past two years” and “suitable for all libraries serving adults”, according to an ALA release today. The selections were made during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The ALA notes that the purpose of the selection is to “call attention to recent video releases that make a significant contribution to the world of video recordings”. The ALA selections committee is composed of specialists in media from academic, public, special and school libraries.
Dr. Peter G. Bourne, Executive Producer of ¡SALUD! and Chair of MEDICC, the film’s distributor, said he hoped the ALA’s decision will encourage local libraries to purchase the film and screen it for their communities as well. He announced that a special discount will be offered shortly for public and high school libraries. “We feel the film is also inspiring to young adults, and it can generate lively classroom debate around issues of values and education, as well as health care,” he said.
¡SALUD! (93 minutes), directed by Academy-Award nominee Connie Field; produced by Connie Field and Gail Reed. Available in four-language DVD (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French). Closed captioned English only. The ¡SALUD! Study Guide downloadable in two versions: for health sciences classrooms and general audiences.
