¡SALUD! a Winner at Houston’s 40th WorldFest

April 30, 2007—¡SALUD! took home a Bronze Remi at Houston’s 40th Annual Worldfest, the world’s largest film and video competition.

The documentary, which explores Cuba’s contribution to global health, is a 2007 release produced and directed by Academy Award nominee Connie Field (The Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter; Freedom on My Mind).

Over 4500 entries in 200 categories competed in this year’s WorldFest, and — ¡SALUD! was one of just 16 documentaries receiving a Remi award.

The Houston WorldFest prides itself on retaining its reputation as “fiercely independent,” according to J. Hunter Todd, the festival’s Chairman and Founding Director.  It was at WorldFest where directors such as Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, David Lynch, Ang Lee, and Ridley Scott received their first film awards years ago, notes Todd in the award letter to ¡SALUD!’s producers.

More awards for ¡SALUD!:  Audience Choice Award (2007 Pan African Film Festival, Los Angeles) and the first Film Prize of American Medical Students Association  (March, 2007).

¡SALUD!, official selection at: FESPACO (Burkina Faso); Atlanta Film Festival; UN Film Festival (New York); Tricontinental Film Festival (South Africa); Festival of New Latin American Film (Havana); New Orleans Human Rights Film Festival; Provincetown Film Festival; and 4th Annual Jackson Hole Film Fest.
